Treinel Jaga

Treinel Jaga is from Salvador Bahia, Brasil. He started train Capoeira Angola with the Nagote Negaça group by Mestre Alex Muniz aluno de Mestre João Pequeno in Salvador-Bahia in 2005. He joined FICA Oakland in 2008 trained under the guidance of Mestre Jurandir, Mestra Andrea and Contra Mestre Daniel . Jaga received the title of Treinel at the 24th International FICA Conference in 2025 in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brasil.

For two decades, Treinel Alex Jaga Sousa, better known as Jaga, has served as a baobab tree to the Afro-Brazilian artistic community in the Bay Area. Migrating to USA in 2001 Jaga has worked hard to bring healing to the Brazilian diaspora, BIPOC, and immigrant communities through the arts. Jaga fights against oppression and racial injustice.

In 2025, Treinel Jaga received an Alameda County Arts Leadership Award
