Treinel Maya
Born and raised in the East Bay, Maya came to FICA Oakland in 2000, after a few years of training sporadically with Mestre Deraldo in the Massachusetts area.
In her years in Oakland, she has trained under the guidance of Mestres Jurandir and Rogerinho and Contra Mestres Andrea and Daniel. She has had the privilege of learning collectively from the many other students of FICA Oakland, as well as the larger FICA and Capoeira Angola community. She has led classes at FICA Oakland since 2004. She received the title of Treinel at the FICA International Conference in 2019.
Outside of the roda, Maya is an educator, mother, partner and friend.
